The Super Sweeper 5000 vacuum is in the house, and Dash isn’t happy. He’s a dog who doesn’t like the competition. The mechanical creature runs around the house, eats crumbs, and is even allowed on the bed! This is a cute and fun picture book. I loved how the story was told through Dash’s perspective.
Life is good for Dash. He has a loving family, a warm bed, and his favorite toy. When the Super Sweeper 5000 shows up, his position in the family feels threatened, and he begins to question whether his human parents still love him.
May The Best Dog Win is a delightful tale and wonderful little picture book. My children enjoyed reading it and laughed at Dash's antics. We all feel a little insecure at times and need a little reassurance that we are still loved. Dash's story has a feel good ending with a trip in the car with his owner for a new toy.

As a pre-school teacher I am always looking for new, interesting stories to share with my class. This story will not only keep their attention but will have their imaginations soaring! It is an adorable story with an all too cute main character that will keep the kids talking about him long after the story has finished. It's simply a classroom MUST HAVE!!!!

Dash thinks he's gone from top dog to pound puppy when the Super Sweeper 5000 shows up! Sweeper is allowed to run all over the house getting away with all manner of things that Dash would surely be reprimanded for...how unfair! But Dash isn't going down without a fight! He is going to reclaim his role as top dog in Kelly Hashway's first picture book, May the Best Dog Win!
Dog lovers (pet lovers really) will enjoy this book. Anyone who has ever felt threatened when a new person enters the picture will be able to appreciate the way Dash feels. Also, the insight into Dash's thoughts will give pet owners something to think about the next time their animal attacks the vacuum or bats at a cord.
General considerations
This book reads well with a group and solo. I was afraid that it would be a little long but the parents and their children in attendance at storytime really enjoyed it. Visually, I would have liked a little more pictures and not have quite as many words on each page. For a picture book I think there was just too much text on the pages but that didn't take away from the story.
Older children gave this book the thumbs up. My tween liked the illustrations and said she liked the expressioons and illustrations of Dash.
The book was fun to read alound and I enjoyed reading it with my group.
Synopsis
Dash is a dog that loves his human family and has the perfect life any dog could want until the Super Sweeper 5000 shows up. Dash thinks Sweeper is another dog and is not happy to be sharing his family. It also seems Sweeper gets to run all over the house sucking up leftover food scraps and even gets his own room. Will Dash understand Sweeper isn't a dog?
Overall thoughts
I read this story with my two little girls. My youngest (under 2 years old) didn't really understand the story, but she did love the illustrations by Valerie Bouthyette. She loved the loveable Dash and seeing him express his disappointment in not being able to do what Sweeper was allowed to do like getting up on beds and eating the scraps from under the dining room table.
My soon to be 6 year old, on the other hand, kept laughing at Dash and how he thought the Super Sweeper 5000 was a dog. She also related to how a dog might think Sweeper was a threat. She kept saying, "Taz does that and he looks like that too when you vacuum the house, mom."
This is a fun story young children will love to read; even if they don't have a dog. Dash is cute and very friendly in the illustrations. His facial expressions remind me of Snoopy. The words are easy enough for earlier readers to read along aloud with their parents, too.

I loved the story. The illustrations were wonderful too; they really added to the overall effect. I definitely plan on reading it to my kids one day!
What a delightful story! I ordered this book for every child I know, both male and female. It made the perfect gift. I am sure it will make all children wonder just what might be going on in the mind of a dog!
